Cruise Lines
Cabin Steward
Is responsible for cleaning the cabin while occupants are vacant. Often unpacks luggage, sets drinks on ice, lays out pajamas, etc. as a special touch.
Table Steward
Much like a waiter or waitress, is responsible for taking care of the needs of passengers at dinner. Is generally assigned several tables for the entire cruise.
Purser
Much like a banker, the purser collects money for shore excursions, cashes traveler's checks, issues on-board credits, etc. Responsible for the "hotel" side of the cruise.
Cruise Director
Responsible for the activities while on-board the ship. May run the morning work out session by the swimming pool and keep going until the midnight buffet.
Retail Shops
Act as salesperson and cashier in one of the cruise ship shops. Generally hired by the company running the shop, not the cruise line.
Aerobics/Fitness Instructor
Must have credentials in this area. Teach health and fitness classes on a cruise ship.
Entertainer
Perform in the nightly show on-board the cruise ship. May also fulfill other duties during the day.
Child Care Counselor
Usually trained, with credentials, work with the junior cruisers in a day care or camp-like setting.
Deck Steward
Responsible for passengers while on deck, arranging chairs, bringing towels and providing cool drinks when ordered.
Chef
Provide the magnificent meals aboard the ship.
Mechanic
Responsible for the ship running properly.
Captain
Responsible for the smooth operation of the cruise.
Crew
Responsible for the safe passage of the cruise ship.
Reservationist
Responsible for making reservations for a particular cruise line. Generally work with travel agents.
Marketing
Responsible for encouraging business on the cruise line. May work with print and media advertising. May interface with cruise organizations as well.
Sales Representative
Meets with travel agents and other retailers to encourage business. May develop preferred supplier relationships. Handles problems encountered by agents and clients.
Documents
Responsible for issuing the necessary documents for travel, including airline tickets. cruise contract, luggage tags, etc.
Cruise-Only Sales Travel Professional
Work as a travel agent specializing in cruises.
