Hotels
Reservations
May work at a reservation center for a hotel chain or at a specific hotel. Take incoming calls.
Housekeeping
Cleans rooms after guests departure. Prepares rooms for incoming guests.
Front Desk
Checks guests in/out. Assigns rooms. Assists with special requests like cribs, extra bedding, etc.
Sales and Convention Planning
Plan conventions to include rooms, meals, events, etc. May make sales calls on businesses. Handle public relations.
Catering
Set up and serve meals at hotel usually in the meeting rooms. Includes clean up and take down of tables.
Cashier/Gift Shop
Work at the retail area of the hotel. Assist guests with purchases.
Hostess
Greet guests at the restaurant. Seat them at available tables. Ensure they have table service and menus.
Waitress
Waitress at the hotel restaurant.
Chef
Responsible for cooking the meals at the hotel restaurant.
Grounds Keeping
Take care of the hotel property grounds. Ensure they are clean and safe. May require some repair work and housekeeping-type chores, such as mopping the entry or cleaning the windows around the pool area.
Health Club Personnel
Responsible for guests at the health club. May assist them with the equipment and an exercise routine. Provide towels and water for comfort.
Concierge
Often the Jack-of-all-trades at a hotel. Answers questions and fulfills reasonable requests by guests. Sometimes stationed in the lobby for all guests, sometimes stationed on a particular floor. May assist with reservations, directions, recommending restaurants or entertainment, etc.
Laundry
Responsible for washing all of the linen and towels.
Maintenance
Responsible for the general upkeep of the hotel. Handles such things as repairing water heaters, replacing light bulbs, plumbing, etc.
Security
Responsible for the security and safety of guests.
Bellperson
This position is responsible for getting guests luggage to the proper room. Must be able to lift heavy loads. May also drive the shuttle van or assist in getting a taxi for guests. May also provide valet parking service.
Doorman
Usually reserved for the more upscale hotels in big cities, this person greets guests as they enter and holds the door open for them. Often part of the security team, a doorman watches the comings and goings of the hotel traffic.
