VIA is the national rail system of Canada, established as a crown corporation
in 1978. It is responsible for the operation of all intercity and transcontinental
passenger services. Trans-Canada rail service has existed since 1885. A
rail trip across Canada passes through some of the worlds most spectacular
scenery.
Equipment and Accommodations
Standard coaches are equipped with reclining, turn-around seats, adjustable foot
rests, end-of-car and overhead luggage racks, portable tables, toilet facilities
and a water cooler.
Classes of Service

Business/Touring Class |
Business or Touring Class, depending on the train, offers advance reservations, pre-boarding privileges,
three-course meals served at your seat and a complimentary after-meal chocolate. Some trains also offer a "Welcome Aboard" reception with hot appetizers and sparkling wine. Passengers traveling in Business or Touring Class are allowed entrance to the Park Car or Skyline Car on trains that offer them, reserved seating in the Panorama Car and entrance to lounges reserved specially for them in some train stations. Economy Class |
Economy Class includes wide aisles, large seats and friendly service.
Circulating trolleys ensure snacks and beverages are always close by.
On trains with overnight service, passengers will receive a blanket and pillow in the evening for more comfortable sleeping. Discounts for youths, students and seniors combined with off-peak fares,
can add up to savings of as much as 50% off regular fares for your
clients. |
