VIA Rail has been renovating its train cars and engines to make them more comfortable and environmentally friendly. Its mission is for VIA to become the best passenger transportation company in Canada.
Travel information, reservations and tickets on VIA trains are available online at VIA Rail's website. You can also purchase tickets through travel professionals, by phone using toll-free phone numbers or purchase tickets at the station. Note that not all stations offer tickets onsite. Seat reservations are available for Business Class, Touring Class, Sleeper Class and most Economy Class reservations.

Fares

VIA offers a number of discount fares on the one-way adult Economy Class and even some Sleeper, Touring and Sleeper Plus Class fares. Below are some of the discounts and passes available. More can be found online at www.viarail.ca.



Discounts and Passes

Seniors and Youths Aged 60 and over are entitled to a discount all year round on Economy Class.

Youths 18 to 24 inclusive receive a discount on Economy Class as well as Sleeper, Touring and Sleeper Plus Class. They may also receive a discount on the purchase of a Canrailpass or Corridorpass. To be eligible, youth must present photo identification with proof of age.
Children and Infants Infants under 24 months of age, accompanied by an adult, are free when not occupying a seat.

Children aged 11 and under are entitled to a discount of 50 percent in Economy Class and a lesser discount in Business, Sleeper, Touring and Sleeper Plus classes. VIA Rail often runs special promotions during the summer which allow children to travel free with the purchase of an adult ticket.

Children aged 12 to 17 are eligible for the student discount on Economy Class as well as Sleeper, Touring and Sleeper Plus. Each must show photo identification with proof of age.
Group Rates Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more traveling in Economy Class. Group leaders can receive one free ticket for each block of 20 tickets purchased.
Canrailpass/Corridor The Canrailpass offers 7 one-way trips anywhere in Canada in Economy class within a 21-day period. Two options for savings exist with the Canrailpass - The Supersaver has the greatest savings but least availability of seats while the Discounted Canrailpass has more flexibility and a wider availability of seats. Upgrades to other classes of service are not permitted.

The Corridorpass allows for 7 one-way trips within 10 days for travel in southern Ontario and southern Quebec and is available in Economy Class. It also comes in a Supersaver and Discounted option.
